I was thinking about the new Chalenj one but as its new I don't know if its any good or not .

It is for my parents and two sisters and they have the usual suspects

I wanted to order it on line and get it delivered

Thank you grin

Not sure what counts as the 'usual suspects' but these games are a big hit with the adult kids in my family:

Absolute Balderdash
Scattergories
Articulate

They're easy enough to adapt to kids too.

Articulate is excellent, I agree.

We're also loving Snatch-It. It isn't a board game as such in that there's no board! grin. It's got tiles like for scrabble. And it's cheap and easily deliverable on Amazon.

I popped in to say Cranium too - it's such a fun, family game!!

Mah Jong is fab but complicated - I can't remember any rules but loved playing it years ago...the tiles are lovely

I second Balderdash. It always goes down well. I find Cranimum a bit complicated. I like to keep games simple!

Cranium is great I third it! a bit of everything for everyone, questions, miming, singing, blindfolded drawing...(got mine cheap on e-bay)

I loved Balderdash ! also Boggle...
Does Ex Libris still exist ? it's where you write the beginning lines or endings of real books to convince people that yours is the true writing - fantastic fun !

"The Very Nasty Horse Racing Game" is brilliant - although very nasty grin

Thank you , sorry by the usual suspects I meant monolopy , scrabble , cranium

I am talking to you all like I talk to my OH , I think he is a mind reader too .

I like the idea of the nasty horse racing game . They can be quite spiteful in their game playing so sounds up their street .grin

No one bought chalenj yet then ?

We enjoyed "Da Vinci Code" - harder than some other games
Also enjoy "really nasty horse racing game"

Played "spot the intro" (the one wiht board and cards as well as CD) at the weekend, really enjoyed that (but need musical knowledge)

Risk, Backgammon (boring suggestion I know but you'll be surprised just how addictive it is!).
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Blinglovin on Tue 02-Dec-08 18:16:43
Backgammon - addictive? No no, can't be true. I do not crow wildly while kicking DP's butt. No, I don't. Neither does he. We've never got so involved we're fighting it out for best of 50....! grin

Pass the bomb is great. It says from age 8 or something like that, but we always play it on New Years Eve when all the children have gone to bed! Particularly great if you have drinking forfeits!

Definitely articulate

i love balderdash and pictionary. was really crap at risk (think i only bought it cos michael stipe sings about it in an rem song)

another great one for music lovers is hummbug (or is it humbug, cant remember). you have to hum tunes for people to guess.

the only thing is, i bought mine about 10 or more years ago when i was listening to music all the time, so it went from the 60's to the 90's (or something like that), and my contempories and i(!) knew the majority of the songs.

however if i was to buy it now it would be up to date and i wouldnt know any songs from about 2002 onwards probably (kids eh, not interested in the dandy warhols, only want to listen to bloody cbeebies)

Another one for balderdash here - great fun.

One of the best board games I've ever played is the really nasty horse racing game - bloody brilliant

Chalenj is brilliant! I hadn't heard of it but played it at my sisters at the weekend and have never laughed so much in my life playing a boardgame. I'm getting one for xmas day for the in-laws grin

gifttrap is entertaining. I'm not much of a board game player but it made everyone laugh quite a lot.
