Bored with turkey. Have done goose. DP doesn't eat beef, mother doesn't eat pork. DD and I don't like game. Other than chicken I can't think of anything else. So I expect it will be turkey again. What are you lot having?
We're having beef Wellington- every year DH moans about turkey/ how much it costs/ how sick he is of leftovers/ how it doesn't fit in the fridge, so I have finally caved and decided to pay less for something they will enjoy more (and which probably won't have any leftovers!) Bit sad not to have a traditional bird, but there you go!
What about duck (or does that come under game?) Or a nice ham? Leg of lamb? You could still do all the Christmas side things
have you seen that one of the supermarkets have a '3 bird roast'for £9.99? either Aldi or Lidl, looked nice, but not sure what meat it was-I'm doing Bernard Matthews Turkey Roast-cos i like it and i'm cooking also doing pork i think.
Lamb? We get bored with Turkey - it;'s a very bland meat - so we're having Beef. Last year we had a 3-bird roast, a partridge (I think) in a duck inside a turkey. No legs, just breast meat all the way through and vvv easy to cookand carve.
I hate roasting a turkey - I'll only have it if someone else cooks it. So it might be roast lamb or some such, or turkey steaks.
One time I planned to do a big roast turkey and the bastard went off and I only discovered it on xmas morning. We went out to look for a shop that was open, found a little corner shop, and got some frozen mini kievs. That was a great xmas dinner. No hassle.
Mumhadenough - last year we were also at the stage of having no kitchen - well, I had half a kitchen. I had an old temperamental gas oven, a worktop and a sink with no drainage. We had a pipe leading through the partition wall to a peice of guttering which led to an open drain out the back, but even this was an improvment on the previous week, when the pipe led to a big bucket that needed lugging over to said drain and emptying once or twice a day. AND we had a guest to stay, and I had the 3-bird roast to cook with all the trimmings.
This year I have a fantastic kitchen with lights and everything. But I bet it won;t be as much fun.
Goodness captainmummy, well done you for managing that.
I think I'll be thoroughly enjoying my takeaway, paper plates and all! We are having my brother and sister here too and will have a nibbles picnic later on at night. We're all thoroughly looking forward to doing something a bit different with none of us slogging over a stove!
Where did you get the three bird roast and was it nice? Every year my dad says he wants one of them for a Christmas present so this year I might just get it!
Three-bird roasts are everywhere this year, I think they have them in Asda. But I got mine last year mail order from Daylesford Organics, not cheap but it was a happy bird (3 of them) and delicious. Not sure I could afford it this year tho. Hence a joint of beef from the butchers. It's the trimmings that the dc love more than the meat anyway - so long as there's lots of yorkshires and stuffing and gravy and roasties, I dont think they'd notice the meat or absence thereof!
