i have that problem with my family - they hate giving money, although they know we save £30 into DS chld trust fund so some of them are becoming a little more ameniable to it

so despite the fact we have a house full of toys DS doesnt play with, they will insist on presents for christmas, already he has coming

a little tikes trike (for when he is bigger)
a little tikes pick up truck (for next summer)
a small trampoline (for next summer)

and thats just the start!! (although the pick up truck is fab and I did pick it) - all little chldren need a cosy coupe car at some point too

also boots are doing a lot of 3 for 2s - ncluding duplo at the moment and addition direct are doing £30 off if you spend £60 - they have duplo - ZG003 for new customers (to keep reusing you just need different email addresses)

totally agree about not getting heaps of random toys that's why I am asking. he prfers paying with his own socks half the time smile
I mentioned the saving to DP but he wasn't keen and most of the family are his...

nothing, or donations to his savings account.

'keepsakes' are a waste of time/space IMO. I suppose the exception would be if you aren't having a christening this is the time to ask for classic books, a noah's ark etc.

for dd's first Christmas (she was 4m) we got her a rattle with a bell in stuffed inside a stocking full of that shredded foil stuff and she had a whale of a time grin

i tend to ask for things for when ds is older or outside toys or nice books

my ds is 19 months and he likes cars that make noises annd his lion ride on that was a walker (that was a good buy actually) and is now a ride on (fisher price), he also loves his sit and spin zebra (that we got from ebay)

but tbh mostly he plays with remotes, phones and my hangbag (as per today when I am ill and so have put a selection of toys all over the floor but he has spent an hour with my handbag and is now playing with the empty box his nappies came in)

what about starting a duplo collection (although again I got DS from ebay) that will last him for years.

I know it sounds a bit mad - but the family are asking what we'd like for DS. I'd like to ask for nice things (not pricey) which we can maybe keep for him as it is his first Christmas. But then again be nice for him to have something to play with..Am a bit stumped. DS is first baby in family for many years so I think we've all gone a bit doolally.
Any ideas from MNers would be most welcome.
thank you
