Anyone with children with exema?

I'm just after some advice really as to what I can do to make my dd's itchy (she calls them "hitchy") bits more comfortable between now and her appointment on Monday?

I'm not 100% certain she has exema until we see her GP but can't think of anything else it could be. I don't think it's a reaction to anything as we use non-bio wash powder, no softener & mostly unscented products already.

It seems to be getting worse so just wondered if there was anything I could get from the chemists round the corner to try and help a bit until Monday?

Thanks for any help or advice

How old is she? My dd takes an antihistamine when she is very itchy.

Keeping moisturised helps with the itching too.

The pharmacist will be able to offer you an non-prescription cream until you get a diagnosis.

E45 cream works quite well, and don't use soap to wash her but just water, soaps can really irritate the skin when they have a flare up.

I keep mind dd's under control with a mixture of 1% hydrocortisone cream and E45 cream, patting her dry well after a bath, only using soap when really necessary, and always avoiding the backs of her knees, elbows, chin and face with any soap which are her worst areas for it. US doctor said can wash her every day if we want to, but not really necessary but only use soap products when essential, otherwise just rinse her down.

I know you said you use mostly unscented products. - Just check the ingredients for SLS or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

It's an extremely harsh chemical used in industry for cleaning industrial strength oils - but it foams nicely, so it is in alot of high street bath products.

if you have a waitrose near you - they do a good range of 'organic' bath products. Don't take the word of the front of the label always read the ingredients

Thank-you. I'll pick her some E45 cream up in the morning. It's actually calmed down quite a bit since this morning apart from under her arms where the worst bits are, they're still really red and sore looking.

She doesn't often get a proper wash with soap in the bath anyway, just her hair usually. She prefers to spend most of her time in there sploshing about with a squirter thingy my dp got her that was actually meant to be used with the paddling pool

Furball I didn't know anything about the ingredients in stuff, I'll start to check before buying in future. It sounds like a very pleasant ingredient to have in things like bath bubbles f it's an industrial strength cleaner!

suiledonne she's 3 and a half, not sure how she'd get on with swallowing a tablet.

I'll try the E45 and check ingredients on the things we use for her between now and Monday. Hopefully it'll not be so "hitchy" over the weekend

Thanks for the advice
