Hi,

Just a query, a child I look after does a poo almost every day!! If she doesnt then her mum gets really worried even if her child is not in pain/distress etc.

She had not done a poo yesterday and didnt today but was perfectly happy and not complaining at all.

I just got a text from the mum to say she has given her DD laxative medicine to get her moving so hopefully she will be back to normal tomorrow!!

Is this usual, I am not a mum but a CM and have never heard of a parent beign so concerned about this and giving her DD medicine, this is not the first time she has done this. Seems to me she is over reacting but I might be wrong, just interested in opinions.

Thanks

my dd and ds vary as to how often they poo but can go 2 or 3 days between them without any obvious distress or discomfort. I havent had to give laxatives to either of them. I suppose it depends on what the poo is like when it arrives - maybe if she goes for too long between them it is dry and hard but I wouldnt personally resort to medication without trying to do something via their food e.g. extra fluids, more fruit, fibre, etc first.

Thanks Seona, I kind of feel the same, she is not upset/distressed and is still happy to go to the toilet without complaints. I owuld be the same as you and would rather try other options first. Not really much I can do about it though its really up to the parent!!
