Is it me, or are these people abdicating their parental responsibilities to a bottle of pills?

It's sad to see the mum have to deal with Hugh. As a mental health specialist, it seems very likely that her son is not ADD etc. - he's a psychopath. They are often misdiagnosed as ADD, aspergers or ODD, and it goes with intelligence and being male. Threats of suicide without carrying it through is also a classic symptom, and acting liking his sister is almost certainly psychopathic.

He's also 'incredibly impulsive' which is again a classic symptom. His mum thinks he doesn't mean to hurt people. He does.

Wrapping up his wii could also be acting for the cameras- he's intelligent and a good actor, it's possible. But the dad is wrong- it's NOT self-flaggelation.

Having read Lionel Schriver's 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' (excellent book btw) I'm afraid Hugh just made me feel very queasy. If I were his parents I'd sleep with the lights on.

For the other cases, I thought the most telling observation was when someone pointed out that many of the kids came from very dysfunctional homes. So the child gets medicated rather than the parents or the environment being corrected - and that's the least worst option.

Bloody hell, watching it now. Agree with Sighchiatrist that Hugh is terrifying. GOK why they think he's bipolar. Sleep with the lights OFF I say - that way he can't aim the bow & arrow.

You can just see his contempt for the adults around him. No wonder the dog's on sedatives - the only member of the family not to be in denial.
