He's 7 and it's one of the bottom two new adult teeth, like a third off, he clunked his head and teeth on a plyground.

Dentist on Friday, will they just cap it, veneer it or what?

He's a bit freaked out by it and want to try and reassure him as best I can.

Thanks

I chipped my top front tooth (approx a third of it was knocked off). The dentist put a "filling" on it, as it wasn't bad enough for a cap or veneer. No one can tell it's been damaged!

My sis in law had a horrible bike accident and lost / badly chipped loads of her teeth, and hers all look as good as new with caps...seriously you would never know!

DS broke both his permanent front teeth, quite badly, and they have been rebuilt with filling.

They can be prone to breaking off if he eats anything too hard, but in 5 years he has only broken them off 3 times, and dentist puts them back as an emergency appt. They also get polished up if he feels they are looking a bit off.

He has just had his braces removed, and now everything is straight you cannot tell his front teeth are not all his (they used to protude so were a bit more obvious).

We have been advised to avoid veneers or caps until he is an adult as they are invasive and can break.

DS1 chipped his tooth and snapped a rather large v shaped piece out of his front top tooth. The dentist veneered it and now it looks fine. He has recently done the same to a bottom front one when he accidentally bit on a spoon. He veneered that too.

My ds broke his when he was 14, now he is 18. He has had no problems with the filling(I keep waiting for it to fall off!) It took about 20 minutes and no complaining. Have you got the piece of tooth? The dentist asked us that..but we didn't!

I broke my tooth when I was about 11. It's quite shocking when it happens, isn't it?! It can be repaired though.

I was attending Guys hospital anyway for orthodontistry at the time and they repaired it with a paste which sets under UV light. (No ides what it was called but I suspect your dentist would know). You can't tell it's a repaired tooth, and I've only had to have it re-done once (it discoloured slightly, 15 years later).

I would definitely recommend it.

lol, dd1 went over the handlebars of her bike at 7 and smashed the ends off her brand new top front teeth. as other have said, they just rebuild it with white filling - in theory they can sort out capping etc as adults if necessary.

dd1 has only had to have it replaced once, (she daftly bit into a super sticky lolly and left the filling bit attached to the lolly - oh, a day before we went on holiday) but we do have a fairly strict no biting into raw apples/ carrots policy lol. (cut it all up - v wearing)

it is a shock when it happens. dd1 is ten now and i've got over the 'omg her adult teeth are trashed for life!' feeling. it's just one of her quirks and barely noticeable.

I am quite glad to read all this, I thought my ds was the only eejit! I think about his tooth more than he does - 'Don't bite that Yorkie on that side'...

It was rebuilt with a filling in about 10 mins, you can not see a thing!

The dentist said it would last about 10 years and bring him back in before he is 16 to get it redone for free!
