Injured middle finger

Ds2 hurt his finger yesterday playing football with dh. He had goalie gloves on, caught the ball and instantly said his finger hurt. However he carried on after 5 minutes - not stopping balls but shooting them instead.

Today it has swollen up around the middle joint (not ridiculously swollen but noticeably so) and looks a bit black/blue. He says he can't bend or sraighten it - he could yesterday.

He is not in pain. It hurts to bend or straighten, so has it slightly curled.

Is it worth a trip to a&e?

maybe a minor injuries unit would be usefull if you not sure it warrants a and e? I had to take my daughter there when she jammed her finger in the door and they were so helpful.

Thanks for replies. We dithered. Yesterday he said it felt a bit better and today he can bend it a bit, so I think it's on the mend.
