Chicken pox - what is the worse stage of the process?

My DS (2) started with a blister on saturday morning and and continued to get red spots though out the day. Some of these have now turned into blisters and he has continued to get more red spots (over 150).

He is ok in himself, slight temp but still running around till he drops, then back up again.

What I want to know is what are the stages? He doesn't seem to be bothered by the spots at the moment, apart from hating me putting calamine cream on him. Does the itching come next? Just so I can be prepared, because he has a lot on his face, around his eyes.

Hi! Ive just posted about chicken pox too! I have two spotty boys at the mo. after the first has just gone back to school. The itching starts more or less as soon as the spots come out but the more spots, the more itching and it seems to reach a peek at about day 2 or 3. Perhaps he isn't itching because the calamine is doing it's job? My DS2 is covered (first spot on Friday) and he is itching a lot. I used Eurax cream on him and piraton. The itching gets less after 3-5 days I think and then the spots start to scab over and then the 'patient' feels better but very, very bored being stuck at home!

Well he is totally covered in calamine, poor thing, as am I - it was the only way to get him to agree!!!

He does keep rubbing the ones around the eyes, and I was going to give him some piriton before his nap, so he didn't scratch in his sleep, but he feel asleep on me when he was giving me a hug, so I've just carried him off to bed. Hopefully he'll be ok and I'll give him some after he's had his lunch. I've also got some Eurax (stocked up on everything I could think of!!) and I put that on before he went to sleep last night, and it must have worked cos he didn't wake up.

Poor you with back to back CP! I bet you're going stir crazy stuck in the house!! Hope your LO starts to feel better soon x

Piriton, or child equivalent antihistamine, is excellent for the itching.
