I would be grateful if anyone can advise me on the following.

My dd(7) was at her dads house 3 weeks ago. The next day, he phoned me to say that she had had an asthma attack in the night. He said that she had been coughing non stop for two hours. Had been on the phone to nhs direct who didnt say much, but that the episode resolved on its own. The next day, he took her to the drs who started her on the blue inhaler and told us to monitor her peak flows.

We went back yesterday and were given the brown preventer inhaler for her to try instead.

My concern is that since this all started her breathing has sounded dry and croaky, her cough is worse than ever, and she does seem breathless from time to time.

I guess im sceptical that was really an asthma attack. She has no history of any other symptoms other than a night cough about 6 months ago which went away. Im worried the inhalers are making her worse and dont know what to do for the best.

Have you thought of contacting the Asthma UK adviceline? It's free from a BT landline, Mon-Fri 9-5, 0800 121 62 44. It's staffed by (very helpful & friendly, IME) asthma nurse specialists who are able to give information on any concerns about all aspects of asthma and is open to anyone, not just Asthma UK members. More info here www.asthma.org.uk/how_we_help/adviceline/index.html

That's a really good idea - I had an email exchange with one of their nurses last year; really knowledgeable, helpful and patient.
