H complained a few times over the weekend about his tooth, I told him I would make him an appointment for after school this week. But he was sent home yesterday morning from school with toothache, we called the dentist and the earliest appointment was today at 9am.

Overnight his cheeck swelled he looks like a wee hamster on one side, luckily the appintment was early.

Dentist said theres infection and it looks like it will have to be removed.

Im so sad she said his other teeth are in good order, he brushes twce a day!

I'm scared, I myself had a tooth out last year and it was horrific!

He is back there tomorrow am so they can keep an eye on it whilst the antibiotics kick in.

Will they do a local anestetic?

My son had his two front teeth out after he broke them in a fall. he had them out under GA and was absolutely fine. PITA not letting him have breakfast but we got him a nice flask and made him hot chocolate for after. The dentist said that the roots of baby teeth are much shallower than adult so they aren't painful afterwords and he certainly didn't seem to be in any discomfort. I think they prefer to use GA to stop it being so scary for children. ( I have go and have a crown fitted next week and quite like the idea of GA).
we were supposed to try and keep him quite all day but he refused and was running round tescos like a loon 4 hours later.
only thing is DS had a wee while he was under so if he does have to have a GA take some spare clothes.
HTH

Thankyou pants!

Did they do it at the dentist or did they send him to the dental hospital?

Thankyou for the spare clothes tip

They did it at the dental bit of the hospital IYSWIM. Typically, they told us at the dentist that they wouldn't do the procedure if he'd had a temp in the last week and he got the first fever he'd had in ages the day before so they had to reschedule. We'd wound ourselves up so much by the time he actually had it done it seemed very anticlimatic. They give such a small dose and I think he was under for 5 minutes. I don't know whether they will have to wait until your son's infection clears up or not? If they decide to take it out anyway. they might not have to if it's a back tooth?
Good luck for tomorrow
