High strength Manuka Honey ok for a 21 month old?

My 21 month old has a stinking cough and cold. I usually give my 4 year old a few spoonfuls of high strength manuka honey during the day when he is ill and I believe the high strength stuff really has benefits. Would it be ok to give some to the younger one. Everything on the internet suggests ok after 18 months but would hate to give it to her for her then to develop some sort of nasty illness that honey can cause. What do you think?

I think that should be fine if everything says 18 months. I think manuka honey is FAB too and always give to my ds, my dd is only 9 months so too young for it yet. X

What benefits do you believe manuka honey has that is not apparent in 'normal' honey?

Lots which is represented in the price! Manuka honey is only produced in New Zealand and is produced by bees that feed from particular plants. It has natural antibiotic and antiseptic properties, some also say antiviral too. It is widely used in the nhs to treat skin sores and my mum was told to start taking it by her gp after it was discovered she had the Helicobactor Pylari virus which causes digestive probs. All honey is good but this is a super honey and it honestly works. Try it. X

How does it work? What are the antibacterial agents present in it which are not present in other honeys?

I do know the NHS use honey to treat pressure sires but I'm fairly sure it's not Manuka honey, just bog standard./

Why 18 months? You can give honey from 12 months. Why would Manuka be different?

Honey, any honey, has natural antibiotic and antiseptic qualities. Ask any ancient Egyptian....
