Rash all over 2-year-old's body

Poor DD was feeling very miserable last week and had a runny nose. She was very grumpy and whiney. Then on Saturday she came out in a rash all over her back and tummy. The next day it had spread to her neck and bum, and today it's faded to just a little at the top of her legs.

I would have brought her to the doctor, only it was Sat night when it first appeared, and she hasn't had a temperature at all. This morning it's pretty much gone, and she's her usual bouncy self, so I didn't think it warranted a visit to the doctor (especially as it'll cost ?60 here in Dublin, and I'll not get an appointment today anyway).

Does it sound familiar to anyone? Is it possible it was german measles? If so my mum thinks I should know for sure. She's also got nursery tomorrow, so should I keep her home, or is it nothing to worry about (ie, is she contagious?)

Sounds like something my DS (20MO) had.

I thought it was measles - took him to the docs and it wasn't.

Had the same rash though - no temp. but DS was more pukey than usual....

Dr. said it was viral and he got over it without having to miss anything (In fact, doing things he enjoyed seemed to make him much happier)

I agree with others - it is probably a viral rash. My DD has had this. The GP said the rash comes out at the end of the infection, so it was OK for her to go to nursery.

Thanks everyone. She's totally over it now, thank goodness. The closest I've seen to it was heat rash, which I get alot myself. It was fairly even little bumps. Back to normal now.

Now we just have to see what germs she's brought home from nursery THIS week!

Glad she is feeling better again.

It's horrid when they are ill, isn't it?
