Children's health

DD has been poorly - which course of action is the best?

I have a number of options:

  1. See GP late afternoon
  2. Ring & make an earlier appointment
  3. Ring the hospital & speak to the consultant's secretary
  4. Ring the hospital & speak to the nurse practitioner
  5. Run round in circles screaming & shouting
  6. Get in touch with Bupa & see her specialist privately

This is always assuming she gets no worse this evening

Which is the most reasonable/normal action to take?

NHS24 will advise you best - you have not said what is wrong with her. Hope she is soon well.

What is wrong with her? What is her state now?

Sorry - she is asthmatic, her peak flow dropped over the last 10 days while on steroids

She is on 40% of her lung capacity - & has seen paramedics last night who nearly admitted her

But she is not having an asthma attack

Even my dad (who is go to work/school half dead) says she looks awful & is offering to pay for the private

I would go option 6

and DD has similar problems so I know where you're at

Silly isn't it

all sense of proportion or rationality flees when your baby is ill (she is 12 )

Glad she is a big baby - was thinking 3 or 4. I still think a call to NHS24 is the way to go. Cannot mess with breathing, whatever the age. They are the professionals, not us, but we can hold your hand...

Her situation hasn't changed since the paramedics saw her last night

She is no better or worse

I must do something my sheet from them instructs me to

I just don't know what is appropriate

DH & I have been chatting & I think we are going for the Nurse Practitioner - as Nurses are more realistic about the practicalities of life (IMO)

Sorry to have been a wuss

OK - changed my mind - seeing the GP at 9:20

I am so indecisive/confused

here

but basically she saw GP who wasn't tremendously helpful then the nurse from the hospital rang (for something else) & has taken the info to sort it out with the consultant - she agreed that it did not sound like asthma and was very very helpful

How is your dd now? I'm hoping option 7 wasn't A&E? If so, fingers crossed

Just got back from A&E - she has pleurisy

So lots of painkillers & she will be better by Thursday/Friday

Poor thing, I've heard pleurisy is very painful.

Glad she will be on the mend
