Coldsores

Hello all

I unfortunately have suffered coldsores for years and it looks like my ickle man of 10 months may be starting one. Could any one offer advise as to whether there are any medications out there suitable - Zofirax and Compeed are for older children. Or am I best letting the virus run its course? Also am I okay to continue breastfeeding if i have an outbreak?

Don't know about the breast feeding and I don't think there is anything you can give a child of that age.

You know the drill yourself, about what triggers yours, so maybe you can keep a diary from when DS started developing one and try to see a patern and then avoid those things.

DD suffers badly with them, but only since about 5, so I could get some prescription cream for her. Maybe take him to the drs to see if there is anything you can use?

For yourself though, have you tried L-lysine? It's a herbal remedy, available in all the health stores. The tablets are huge. DD always gets one after she's had a cold or she's had a series of late nights, so I start giving them to her during the cold and it does reduce the length of them.

Rotten for DS though. Keep an eye on it, as it could easily turn into impetigo, since they don't understand not to touch or scratch it.

go and check with doc...i think you can use aciclovir but not 100% sure. If it looks as if it is going near the eye get him to docs immediately.

the contact has got to be with the actual cold sore.

You should be able to use a small amount of Blistex. But I would still check with you GP before doing anything!
