bf ds 3 always excluded from nursery due to illness - what to do

Posting for my best friend. Her ds 3 in full time nursery - since he's been born I cannot even begin the count the number of times he's been sent home from nursery for so so many things and they'[ve had to take him to a&e as he's poorly.

He's a lovely kid - I'm a first time mum too but my ds 3.5 has been rarely rarely unwell - and goes to nursery too.

Should she be concerned -and is there a good vitamin pill she could give him to strengthn his immune system - I mean it scares her that my ds has had 2 sets of abs in this life (from the age of e years old). He gets nothing and when he does it's mild and he's over it in 24 hours (is this normal?).

She's really at her wits end with worry for her ds. It would worry me too.

Any ideas?????

Yes. Suggest that your friend asks her doctor for advice.

well he's at nursery so will pick up every bug going because they have usually snotted everywhere (or whatever) by the time they get sent home.

The only other thing I can think is it may be worth asking for his iron levels to be checked as if these are low he will be more susceptible to infections.

Cool I also think she needs to see a specialist. I know lots of little ones in full time nursery from 6 months but this kid is always down with something -if it's there - he gets it. Mine gets nothing (touch wood and he's at preschool with alot more kids and alot more opportunities to catch the lurgy).

I think she's also worried but is so used to weekly visits to her gp - I'll tell her to scream and shout and get her lovely boy (my ds's bf) the once over.

It's probably worth getting checked out as he should have some resistance by now to the nursery bugs.

I took my dd out of nursery from the age of 2 till 3 as per advice from the consultant as she was constantly ill and in hospital. She has had every test under the sun and nothing really found apart from she does have a low immune system. She was put on a small dose of antibiotics everyday for 2 years to stop her getting things and so her immune system could strengthen, she was like a different little girl in this time. She has now come off the antibiotics completly and is at school and just gets the same illnesses as any of the other children, no more no less. Your friend needs to be referred to a paeditrician, tell her to write down every time he has been ill and ask for some immunity tests. Hope this helps x

Tell her there is light at the end of the tunnel i thought dd was never going to get better, but her immune system just needed a bit of a break to strengthn itself
