Is your 2yo on movicol? movicol half or movicol paediatric?

DS is due to start Movicol today - the box says Movicol Half, but on the prescription it says Movicol paediatric. Are there 2 diffeent products or are these the same thing?

What threw us was the patient leaflet says not for children under 12 years old, yet on the Norgine (the drug co) website their patient leaflet for Movicol Paediatric gives dosage for 2yrs upwards. I've checked the ingredients and they seem to be the same for both products, so am not sure if this is the same product?
TIA.

hi kate my dd1 was on Movicol Paed for months. It really worked for her.

Maybe ring the pharmacy and check if it is ok.

My 5 yr old is on Movicol Paediatric plain (and was prescribed this when she was younger although not as young as 2). 1 sachet is 6.9g with 6.563g Macrogel in.
Check with the Pharmacy - it could be that they've given you the wrong box.

My DS (20 months) is on movicol paedeatric plain as well. Apparently its not licensed for use in this age group ( because they have never done tests) but its safe and widely used. But it not being licensed means that there are no age appropriate instructions on it.
I think you need to ring the pharmacy and check before you start the treatment.

thank you all, only just managed to get back on and check, really appreciate the replies. I'd rang the pharamcy and he checked all the details and said there was a slight difference in the composition for one of the ingredients, so we've kept him on his lactulose for the weekend, until I can get back to the GP on Monday for a proper prescription. - Bit of a pallava - we had a prescription from the community paed as we'd had a referral, which was for movicol paediatric plain. But she'd forgotten to stamp the prescription, and wasn't back in until Monday. Rang the GP and they did a new prescription for us, but this one was for the movicol half, which I didn't realise at the time!
hopefully we'll get results quickly when we (finally) get started - I can feel the impaction again, he's been on lactulose for 6months, had an initial clear out, but it's not been working as well the last few weeks, bless him. thanks again all.

Hi I just wanted to reassure you becasue my DS2 who is 20 months has chronic constipation and I was told to give him 8 spoons of lactulose a day which hardly made a difference and I really struggled to get him to take it all. Since referral to community paed nurse he is now on movicol paediatric plain and it has worked wonder! He is like a different child - pooing frequently, enjoying his food again. It will clear him out and he will bemuch happier. Just wanted to give you some hope.
