Please can anyone with experience in this come and post here and calm me down a bit.

I know Lisad123 has experience but not sure if she is still around? I have done searches but to be honest the results make me worse.

My 9 month DD has had a few pictures where her right eye shows as being white. I remembered reading about this here on mumsnet and so rushed her straight to the GP.

Two GPs have looked at her red reflex and say that her reactions are excellent but that in the right eye, there is an area on the retina which is paler that usual. Both doctors were being very bubbly and upbeat, but said they would never take a risk with eyes. I have read about retina blastoma but didnt even broach this with the doctor.

They advised that although her red eye reflex is good, there is definatly a difference in her right eye which is the one showing white on photos. They said it could be caused by cysts and to get it checked out. I have an appointment on 24th sept which I imagine is quite quick.

I feel physically sick. I know it may be nothing, but reading other peoples stories and checking the condition on google makes me frantic with worry. does anyone have experience they can share with me. I look at her beautiful blue eyes and i'm gripped with panic. I know I need to stay calm and rational...but Im finding it very hard.

Oh and my user name is misleading, my Dh is not a doctor..in case anyone wonders why he isnt giving me medical advice

No experience of this sorry, I do have experience of googling things and it is madness. Stop trying to self diagnose, your appt. isn't far away and in the meantime I hope someone with some solid knowledge comes and helps you.
Stay calm and breathe.

Yes you are right kreecher, steer clear of google! I know people on here have experienced similar issues so I'm just hopeful to hear some good news stories.

No experience DW, but didn't want to not respond to your post as you sound pretty frantic with worry . I agree with kreecher...Step AWAY from Google; that way madness lies indeed.

Good Luck with the appointment and fingers crossed for DD

Yep, logging off the PC now as I can hear DD waking up. I am worried, purely because they advised that they can see this area on the retina which looks different.

Being a first time parent, its my first experience of the absolute terror that can grip you when your kids are involved. never felt anything like it. Although Im maintaining the carefree facade at home.

There was a poster called marieburd whose DS had retinoblastoma in both eyes; he was going to be treated with a combination of chemo and then lasering off the tumours and the doctor was pretty optimistic that that would be all that was required, and he'd be left with no long-term effects other than his eyesight perhaps not being quite 20/20. So even if it is retinoblastoma the consequences needn't be too dreadful.

Marieburd seems to have left shortly after her DS started the treatment I did a search just now and couldn't find any posts from her after November last year but [[www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1780912.ece this is her in the Sun (he was 18 weeks, not 18 months, though) when her DS was part way through his chemo.
