What would cause these white marks?

Over the last few days I have noticed some small white stains/marks in ds's pants at the front (he's 4). They are very white and not crusty in any way (sorry if TMI). He has a bath daily, but doesn't necessarily clean his penis. I asked him this evening if it was at all sore or itchy and he said no, so I'm guessing not thrush or anything like that. Is this just a hygiene thing? And if so, what can I do about it?

balanitis, inflammation of the foreskin

get to the doc, you may need fucidin ointment and or anti bs

not all boys have symptoms so it could well be thrush

Would a trip to the gp involve anything invasive do you think? It's just that he starts school on Wednesday as one of the youngest in the year (July baby) and I don't want to freak him out before that if I can avoid it. He's a PFB, can you tell?

yes i can tell he is your PFB. tell him not to be shy and see if he will let you gently pull his foreskin back. Some boys (again TMI) get a cheesy deposit under their foreskin which can cause embarrasing problems when they get older

So if it is a cheesy deposit, does he need to see a gp, or should I just try to get him to wash a bit better and see if the problem goes away?

Mrsmopple - if your ds lets you pull his foreskin back Id be amazed!
My ds would be horrified

Do parents often do this to their boys?
I have never made any effort to clean ds willy!
He doesnt either - we just wave the shower hose at it and thats about it

He has never a white mark in his pants though so not something I have ever thought of doing

my son had funny cheesy marks on his pants and we found a hard lump on the inside of his foreskin. It got bigger over the months and it used to smell a bit. Took him to see a paediatrician and he told me he had a tight foreskin and that there was this cheesy deposit underneath, He gave me some betnovate cream to rub on and told me i had to gently pull his foreskin back otherwise he would have to be circumcised. AND few weeks later out popped this peanut size ,foul smelling cheesy deposit. Had no problems with DS1 co-operating,he was a really good boy and realised it was to help him. we have always been a very open family and i think that stopped him from being shy about it.

Boys Are Like Dogs - you were right.
Went to the doc today and have got antibiotics and a steroid cream (which he said I should use on ds's penis for 6 WEEKS ). I'm a bit nrevous about daily use of steroid for so long on such delicate skin, so may not go for that long, but we'll see how it goes. Thanks for all the replies
