Trimethoprim for a UTI-how long until it starts to work?

DD was prescribed Trimethoprim of Friday afternoon, had first dose straight away. It's 2 doses a day, so she's had 4 so far, but showing no improvement.

She's such a poorly girl, with raging temp spikes, terrible shivers and wobbly when she stands, and hasn't eaten a thing since Thurs. How much longer until she starts to feel better-I'm getting a bit scared by it now, to be honest.

Trimethroprim is usually very fast acting and usually considerably better within 12 hours. That sounds like a very serious UTI if she is having all those other symtoms. I would get another opinion.

Hope she feels better soon.

I would have said that improvement with any AB should be expected within 48hrs

Ditto what Ihatethecold says. The drs should have sent a sample away for testing which bug is causing the infection. From my personal experience the Trimethoprim should be working by now if it will work. Contact the surgery first thing Monday morning and get different abs if no better by then. Poor little mite. When I get it I always seem to get the non trimethoprim susceptible sort, so always have to battle with the dr to get the alternative in the first place
