am very worried about kids getting swine flu and in particular my dd(8)
as she had pneumonia when she was 7-has it made her chest/lungs weak do you know?

Not a doctor or in any way medically qualified. But you sound worried and you are not getting a reply

If pneumonia had damaged your dd's lungs I would assume this would have made her more prone to coughs/colds in general. If she has been well since her bout its probably a good sign and means that her lungs are unlikely to be damaged.

But why not phone NHS direct if you are fretting?

I was wondering the same as DS 13 had atypical pnuemonia in May and has only really just go over it.

I tried ring NHS direct and it's not easy to talk to anyone.

Discuss your worries with your GP not NHS 24 who do not know your kids.

Is she Asthmatic? Does she take Inhalers? Did she before the pneumonia?

If she has to take them as a result of the Pneumonia,or has increased the need for them, and takes them more often, then the answer is there, her lungs need more help to work efficiently.
If no to those questions, you can see for yourself that she has fully recovered from the pneumonia.

My DD had Pneumonia when she was 2.6,had to be seen about 6 weeks later to be x rayed to ensure she had recovered completely, even at that young age she has/had. HTH

I suggested NHS direct Pacific because OP sounded a bit anxious, but yes you are right, GP better.

DS had pneumonia when he was 18 mths (sounds like we are having a competition now ) he has never had any problems since. He rarely gets any colds or coughs and is a 6' 15 year old now.

she has no lasting damage from the pneumonia although she occasionally complains of small stabbing like pains in the area?
you will never guess what ? that the school calls me today as she was sick and hot/headache they suspected swine flu so i took her home and called nhs they are not taking any calls so called gp and they called me back straight away ,she doesnt have a temp so gp thinks its just a virus(my 2 sons and dh had it last week) thought me and dd got away with it but alas no !!
am very worried though as we were at the hospital on tuesday as she had a thorn in her foot so thinking she may of picked it up from there altough we used the alchol rub 4 times

Sorry to hijack your thread candyfluff but I wanted to ask you a question about the 5 year age gap you between DD and DS2. Was DD jealous of DS2 when he was born? Is it only just a 5 year age gap or is it closer to 5 and a half or 6 years? I seem to remember you saying DS2's birthday was this month?? but don't know when DD's is.

hi nappy addict
my dd was my 2nd child and she was 5yrs and 4 months when ds3 was born and the jealousy was bad -very upsetting ,she kept saying she wishes he was never born and that we loved him more than her. its still there a little,ds3 is 3 next week ,why do you ask?
