bumbly · 25/05/2009 21:33

little boy out of blue screamed and tugs at willy

is 22 months old

had just slid off sofa so perhaps could have got willy (skin) stuck as was on belly

but i immediately suspected uti

no fever as such

and again screamed after bath

no times have had really wet nappy so not sure if he peed when screamed or not

could a trapped willy have these sympotms? continuing pain for a bit?

what were your uti symptoms in your boy toddler?

will see how goes in night as sleeping now. does pain wake them up if uti?

and then book to see gp according to night/morning

but am worried as hell

on net said they need to stick catheter...true????

It's very rare for a boy to get a UTI (not impossible though) but he'd have other symptoms (fever etc). Is it red/swollen? Are his testicles swollen/blue?

bumbly · 25/05/2009 21:49

thanks fluffy didnt realise that!

and i clean his pooo almost always staright after he has done it

but this odd screaming and saying peepee (willy) hurts is so odd!

no redness or blueness anywhere but when dad tried to touch tip of penis a couple of times flinched

does uti cause the penis itself to hurt

could a retacted foreskin have done this?

no blood

It really is very rare for boys to get UTI's due to the structure of the willy. Girls are more likely to get them as their anatomy is closer and some wipe in the wrong way. A uti would start off with cystitis so it would make the wee sting. To be honest, if you can't find a cause and he's screaming in an odd way I'd call NHS direct and get him looked at by the out of hours. It could just be sore if he's slipped and pulled it, is the tip OK? red? Tight?

most odd

and when he first screamed he really didnt know what to do with himself

It can be so difficult when they are small and like this. It's guess work most of the time.
I hope he's feeling better soon.

update

saw gp this morning after noticing when pulled foreskin back this morning very gently it was red in one part near where it attaches to shaft

weas not like that yest eve

went to docs but unfortunately got one i hate

he literally took 2 seocnds and that would be overestimating time he looked at willy

and said soap and water that is it

i was worried as looked a bit blistery

not sure if it pulled foreskin or infection but sp said red and no need for antibiotics

so bathed him in light soap before lunch

so far pee'd with only tugging his pants..so obviously hurting but no screams as of yet again

will keep posted more in week!

It should be fine. It sounds like it could be the start of an infection there, as he said, keep it clean. Do take him back if you are cncerned though. Soap will irritate it and make it sting so use water. I'm tempted to suggest some salt water but I've no idea if this will sting or not.

Sounds like an infection - DS had one when he was younger, he has phimosis - where the hole in the foreskin is too tight for retraction, which can leave you prone to infections as wee gets stuck under the foreskin.

PMSLBrokeMN · 26/05/2009 14:55

Oh, and he was given some fucidin cream for it BTW, went away v. quickly.

worse since spoke in that foreskin retracted a bit

shaft revealed

why does the bloody doc take one sec to look after it has taken me two hours to get there!
hate my gp surgery!

useless

no screaming but pulling/tugging at nappy

did 2 oilatum baths and put zinc oxide tonight

gp said to put sudocrem on penis and i think that might be a bit stingy!!

My DS1 has this at the moment - is 3. Went to see out of hours GP yesterday - she said wasnt a UTI (tested his wee) but tip of penis abit red so is an infection (poss fungal infection) as bit of wee stays in foreskin and ideal environment for fungus. Gave us some cream to clear it up. Said if he's really struggling with the wee to pop him in a lukewarm bath and let him wee in there. Am sure the oilatum baths will help. Avoid using scented products on him at present (advice from my GP dad and GU Medicine mum).

Hope your little one gets better soon. Would be worth going back to see different GP again tomorrow if no better.

I don't have experience of this (although my ds is the same age) but maybe it was just that his foreskin was tugged back quickly and he has a little split/tear at the bit where it's attached?

Perhaps a mild salt bath might be the way to go, I doubt it would sting (don't they recommend salt baths for tears after childbirth?)

Maybe you could also try leaving his nappy off for a while tomorrow to let it heal, unless you think he'll pull at it and make it worse. Hope he's feeling better soon, poor little guy!

CrushWithEyeliner · 26/05/2009 20:52

yes defo leave the nappy off as much as possible - he needs the air to get to it.

Report
bumbly · 26/05/2009 22:08

thanks everyone - yes am not sure between mild infection or tear

if tear will that result in permanent damage/scarring?

he now wont let me look at all and kicks

which is understandable!

no screaming but all locks sore and feel so let down by my gp!

thanks again for all your posts!

Poor little guy and about your GP, sounds v crap - especially suggesting you use soap. Are they your nearest practice? Can you change to another one?

I very much doubt a small tear would lead to damage or scarring.

update

def looks like a tear rather than infection

one side under foreskin where red is more more deep

he let me look at it today bless with no kicks as a bit better but still raw red and sore and bothering him

what shall i do now to prevent adhesions forming and scarring?

anyone have experience on this?

help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi bumbly, I'm not sure about adhesions because I looked one google for "torn frenulum" and it said that adhesions can happen as a tear heals but that it is correctable with fairly minor surgery if it proves a problem in the future. I think on that score you'll just have to wait and see.

I've also read that scar tissue makes the frenulum stronger, and less likely to tear in the future (although I spose that's not much comfort now!) ALL the websites say that it will heal, and just to keep it clean and use an antibiotic cream if you think it looks at all infected. They say it can take up to about 2 weeks for all soreness etc to go, so try not to worry.

It's a good sign if he's letting you have a look, it must be getting less painful. Get yourself a new GP though, he sounds rubbish! hth
