Can someone explain to me what will happen if they have to drain dd's infected toe

DD woke up crying last night her big toe was swollen and red . She saw GP this morning who gave her AB's for an infection in it but said if it got bigger to take her to A&E as it would probably need draining.

She has also advised that she keep off it as much as possible and prop it up she is 7 .

So what happens if we go to A&E if it gets bigger will she have to stay in and will it be very painful ?

I am also worried because she is meant to be going on a two day residential trip with school on Monday and she will be really upset if she can't go .

Oh dear She will more then likely have to stay in if they need to drain it, then they will dress it so she won't be able to get it wet. It is probably already painful, skin is only supposto stretch a small amount. It depends on how big the infection is though. If you need to take her back then make sure you see the same doctor so he can remember what it was like and can tell if it has changed.

Time will tell. Ds had a similar thing on his thumb a couple of years ago. I was advised to take him to A&E by the practice nurse and it popped whilst we were waiting. They just dressed it so with any luck, the antibiotics may do the trick for your dd. Time will tell.
