Lactose intolerance and hayfever

Right i might be putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5,so would like some views please.
When ds2 was afew weeks old he was diagnosed lactose intolerance. At 10mths old he was rushed to hospital with breathing problem and spent 5 days in PICU.He came home with inhalers, which we did use for awhile. Before we had to rush him to a&e we spent alot of time in the garden because it was nice weather. We also had lots of flowers in the house.
Anyway by about 18mths old we had manage to wean him onto lactose in small amount.Last summer the weather wasn't so good, and ds was fine. This year so far he has played outside lots at home and nursery. He is always rubbing his eyes and a little chesty. He has started to be fussy with eating but drinking lots of milk.He doesn't seem well most of the time and is tired alot.
I know they may be 2 different things,Lacotose intolerance and something else hayfever maybe.Would the 2 go together.
Any advice or experiance.
Thanks

lactose intolerance is due to a lack of the enzyme lactase, which is required to digest it. This would have no link to hayfever whatsoever.

However, if your DS had cows milk protein intolerance instead, that would be an allergic type reaction, which would be more in line with hayfever, another allergic reaction. From what you have said, it does rather sound as though he has some form of hayfever but you would need to get him seen by a doctor.

If he is drinking lots of milk, his lactose intolerance may start to make itself felt again, even if it is in a different way now - he might have tummyache and dodgy bowel movements rather than throwing up. Try taking him off the cows milk to see if it helps - or get the low-lactose milk, or yoghurt drinks rather than plain milk (in yoghurt, the majority of lactose has been fermented away so it is better tolerated than milk).

HTH.

I don't know.

But, DS who is dairy intolerant had a bit of an episode yesterday, and was prescribed Piriton, which is the same stuff they give for hayfever.

Seems to suggest that the type of intolerance doesn't matter as the treatment is the same?

ah yes ilovemydog, but I have read your other thread and your DS is cows milk protein "intolerant" (tho it sounds pretty damn allergic to me!) so it would be similar to hayfever. Very different from lactose intolerant.
