Could 8 month ds have whooping cough?

My dh and I have had a persitent violent cough for 3 weeks that isn't shifting accompanied with a sore throat, both coughing up loads of nasty tasting phlemn (sorry) and it gets worse in the evenings and at night. I am coughing quite violently and pulled a muscle.

I went to the doctor for a different matter yesterday and when also examined for my cough she gave me antibiotics (not whooping cough ones) and throat spray.

Ds has also had the cough but has not seemed unwell from it until last night. From 7pm till 10pm last night he threw up a lot of clear mucus and couldn't keep any liquid down. Then eventually intermittently threw up teaspoon full amounts of yellow phlem. He is a bit better this morning just quite thirsty and exhausted.

I looked up the symptoms and everything is starting to seem like the family has whooping cough.

But then none of us have the whoop (but that could be because he is too little and we are older) Also he has been vaccinated and I am sure I had whooping cough when I was younger.
So surely its unlikely we have it.

Another Mum mentioned at swimming that they have also had this persistent unshiftable cough so could it just be a general cough going round? Any advice experience please.

Hi

I can't remember about the other sympthoms but if it sounds like you're barking when you cough that is definately whooping cough (we use to call it kennel cough) If it is this you might find that when you get coughs in the future they will stay around longer and be slightly worse than they would normally.

Saying that the rest of my family have had horrid coughs a few weeks ago and it was worse than normal but doctor just thought it was one of the virus's going round. If the cough continues I would contact your doctor if DS can't keep anything down today.

All illness's this year so far seem to be far stronger and longer lasting than normal IMO.

thanks for the advice he seems happy in himself today but for a baby that's never sick he keeps throwing up the milk 5 minutes later and as it doesn't smell I guess it hasn't hit the stomach (sorry TMI) would have to happen when dh is away I'm going to call my Mum now to see if she remembers

Poor you how's he doing now? It always happens when you've got to make a decision on your own.
