What could this rash be?
16mth old son has had rash since Friday.
All over body, legs, torso, arms. Very spotty and quite pale at times, bright pink at others, when it looks 'blotchy'. Looks a bit like heat rash.
Absolutely fine in himself, cheeky as ever, no temperature or any other symptoms. Rash not bothering him.
He has had very bright pink cheeks over weekend, not today.
Thinking maybe slapped cheek?
He is due at CMs tomorrow and bit concerned whether I should get him checked today, but I am ALWAYS at the Doctors. He's had tonsillitis 2 weeks ago, conjunctivitis couple of weeks before that.
I know he isn't ill in himself, but could this be contagious?
Any ideas/thoughts appreciated. I have posted before about this, I don't think it is scarlet fever as he has no temperature, but could be slapped cheek as I say.
Thanks for reading!

Hi. If he's just getting over tonsillitis etc the rash could be urticaria (sp?). It's also called nettle rash if you want to look it up. DS had a virus a few weeks ago and came out in a rash similar to what you describe. Doctor said it's common to get nettle rash after illness as it's the body's way of showing a virus.

I could be completely wrong but just an idea. We were prescribed Piriton (anti histamine) and it worked a treat. Pop to the doctors to put your mind at rest - I'm there every week at the moment so I know how you feel, but it's your taxes that pay your Doc's salary!

What you have described is exactly what my 3 year old has at the moment and has had since thursday, i went to the doctors on friday and they told me they though it was just a viral rash, but dd is showing no signs of being ill.

I am still unsure and was going back to the doctors today but it is slightly fading more.

Not sure what it is to be honest.

thanks lovelymama and scoobydoo.

i've rung nhs direct, who've said it's either:

a) reaction to amoxicillin (which he had for the tonsillitis and i've since found out my dh is allergic to it too, as he had rashes after taking it as a child!)

b) viral infection related to his ongoing cold

c) slapped cheek rash

the nurse said that all three are self-limiting and not treatable. she's put my mind at rest that it isn't anything serious.
lovelymama - i have tried with the piriton and it didn't make any difference.
i've rung cm and really hoping she'll be okay about taking him tomorrow.

just hope it goes soon.
thank you for posting.
i hope your dd rash clears soon scoobydoo.
