spontaneous nosebleeds?

My 19 month old son has woken up a couple of times now with a nose bleed or having had one over night. There has not been any trauma to the nose as far as I am aware. Is this a common thing? He is otherwise fairly healthy although underweight for his age (19 pounds) but he was premature.
Thanks in advance xx

Two of my DDs have this quite often - they got used to kitchen paper in their bedrooms by the time they were 2. They are perfectly calm about nose bleeds now, and will help each other if necessary. They learned to stay in bed and shout rather than drip blood everywhere!
I have taught them to sit up, lean their head forward slightly and wait for it to stop. You could also pinch the tip of the nose. It may be worth asking your HV next time you see her if she has any other tips...?
Good luck!

I used to get loads as a child and unfortunately DS seems to be heading the same way

Oddly enough DH has never had one in his life !
