My DS is 2.5 yo, on Friday night he had a temp of 38.8 so we gave him some calpol and put a wet flanel on his forhead to try and cool him down and put him in bed at about 7ish.

Saturday morning he woke up with a temp of 38.4 so we gave him some more calpol at about 8.30 am. All morning he sat on the sofa with Iggle Piggle (fav cuddly toy) but was not himself, wasn't talking very much and not interested in toys etc..
At 11 we checked his temp, it was 37.4. He ate some toast for breakfast and half an apple for his morning snack. At lunch time we made him a sandwich and he fell asleep mid bite. He was due for some more calpol but I didnt want to wake him so we put him to bed.
When he woke up he had a temp of 38.1 but seemed abit more happy in himself so we tried some dinner (cauliflour cheese his favourite) but he wouldnt touch it.
We gave him a cool bath and put him to bed with some more calpol.

This morning he woke up with a temp of 37.4, but was sick all over his bed. It was abit watery. Hes had some calpol since and is now sitting on the sofa. Hes had some toast thismorning but still seems really off. His temp now is 37.1.

Sorry for such a long post! Has anyone got any advice, should I take him to a walk in centre or keep him here and keep an eye on him? He has still been drinking aswell.

My DH, 6 month old DD and myself all seem to be fine so far.

Sounds like a bit of a bug - which is probably what the doctor would say!

Have a quiet day, let him eat what he fancies, keep offering drinks. I'm sure he'll be fine soon.

I would keep him home and have a PJ day tbh and just keep an eye on him.

He has only been sick once, the temp was a bit high but not massively so and there is very little they can do when a child is sick - especially as he has only been sick once and is drinking.

My DD just had this - it is a rotten bug. The fever is not so high he just needs lots of rest and fluids. DD turned into an awful cold and cough, the fever went on for about 3 days.

Sounds like a tummy bug.

As has been said the fever is not so high that he needs meds for it. If it does go up again ibuprofen tends to be more effective than calpol.

I would probably restrict food and drink to clear fluids (i.e. no milk) and fairly bland food like toast with a little spread until you are comfortable that his upset tummy is better.

Oh and of course most importantly lots of TLC

You could also just try touching his ears to see if he recoils. I only say this because he sounds a bit like my ds at the start of an ear infection. Having said that though, i'd expect he'd be crying in pain if it was.

My ds had something like this the other week. had a temp for about 4 days then came out in a viral rash, was only sick twice and wasn't himself. When I took him to docs she checked his ears for infection, advised to give calpol 4 hrly and asked for a urine sample to rule out urine infection. He had the rash about 72hrs then was back to normal.

you could also tickle his belly button to make sure he looks down and there is no neck stiffness just to make sure...

I am sure he will perk up soon, good luck x
