Ds 18m has had a cough for 2 weeks, now also has a cold and threw up twice through coughing. Should I take him to the docs?

He's had the cold 2 or 3 days, it isn't major but he's whiny, obviously uncomfortable and stuffed up, with thick green snot now. I've been giving occasional calpol when he seems to need it.

The cough has been present for two weeks, again not severe, but today out of the blue he threw up twice after coughing, I think because he has phlegm at the back of his throat more than a stomach upset.

Tomorrow is emergency clinic only at my gp's surgery, should I take ds along or will they just tell me there's nothing they can do and to ride it out? I'd rather not drag him downtown if that's the case as he's also teething so feeling v miserable, poor thing.

Also, is there anything I can do to help him feel better? Thanks

Is he eating OK? Any fever?

He hasn't eaten an awful lot today, brought up most of his midday bottle and the dinner he was eating, although he was eating it. Hasn't had his bedtime bottle because he fell asleep too soon, and anyway I think the milk is aggravating the phlegm.

Temperature wise he felt warm earlier but screamed hysterically when I tried to use the armpit thermometer on him. I kept it on as long as possible but he was like a bucking bronco lol - highest temp I saw on it was 36.9.

Take him to the GP tomorrow so he/she can listen to his chest, especially if he's had a cough for a couple of weeks and if he's not eating. It may be clear but it needs checking.

I hope he's feeling better soon

My DD went through same things in December and she was only 13 months then. 1st time doc said it was just a bug but it just became worse and afterwards they diagnosed her with Bronchiolitis and gave antibiotics but she still threw up few times and they said it will heal in its own time. It took more than 2 weeks for cough to stop.

Since Sunday night she had the cough again but not as bad back in Dec. Just given her cough medicine and Calpol. If its any worse tomorrow then will pop in at docs.

See how he is in the morn and take him and doc can listen to him properly. Good Luck
