Smelly "bits" - baby DD - why?!

DD is 14mths and when I took her nappy off tonight there was a not very nice smell, but couldn't pin it down to being wee or poo related...she was going for her bath anyway, so after bath had a sniff and it is still there, my worry is that it is quite an "adult" smell for down there - would some sort of infection give her this? She's not particulary red or anything and wasn't scratching herself
Anyone experienced this?

Is she in disposable nappies or real nappies? She could have a yeast infection, but just keep an eye on it for a few days. Has she had a tummy upset or a lot of wind?

Disposables, she's teething with molars so there have been some very unpleasant nappies going on...

Ah, well quite often some bum stuff can slip round and decay in the vulva (grim I know). Best thing is to be really careful to clean with cotton wool and warm water for five days. And change her every two hours at least to avoid letting anything fester.

i did wonder if she hadn't been completely cleaned properly - things like this I hate working - everyone under the sun has changed her nappy this week apart from me! DH has her the rest of the week so will get him on warm water duty, thank you.

Although - would that account for the type of smell - I wanted to avoid using this word but it's quite fishy

Fishy tends to be urine which has collected and not been wiped away - you may well find daddy only wipes when there is obvious poo. (mine did that too till he got a very stern talk from me!

she may have a vaginal infection that has tracked round from the bum area

see your doc, its not that uncommon

if that is what it is, it won't get better by itself

awh don't worry, my dd can get this too, usually when shes going through a bout of teething, also smelly breath not sure why-do keep an eye on her though, in case it is a yeast infection and use the warm water. Also, make sure that others that clean her aren't using perfumed wipes. I know what you mean, others never seem to clean their bums properly do they!

OK, a few days of warm water and thorough cleaning, then docs if no improvement. Will check the wipes at MILs too...
