I remeber having this as a child but never knew quite why at the time . I disticntly remeber the taste howver.

My DS appears to suffer from constipation and just surfing the www and found reference to Milk of Magnesia , just wondering if anyone here uses it and how they get their DC to take it .

Hi Captain Underpants

How old is DC?? I don't think that Milk of Magnesia is made for little ones. I bet there are loads of constipation threads on here, there are loads of more natural options, prune juice, upping water intake, chiropractic treatments, the list goes on and on.
I suppose the question is how long has it been going on for and how bad is it??

Hi , he is 8.

He does not have regualr bowel movements , every 3 - 4 days . when he does the stools seem pretty normal i.e not small and hard.
Overall he is a helathy boy , active and eats well , although obviuosly not well enough for him to have a poo every day .

It is just that he complains regularly of stomach pain , usually a sign that he needs a poo. We are trying to get him drink more water but diffult to monitor during the day at school even thoough he takes in a water bottle .

I really cant see him taking prune juice , although we are trying to up the fruit intake.

I am taking him to the Gp next week as we had a simialr issue about 6 months ago with him, tummy Ok but appeared he was dehyrdated somewhat. I put it down to irregular bowel movement but I am not medically qualified hence want him checked out by GP (again !),
just though that Milk of magnesia was an option to help us on the way.

Yes, you can give it to children, tried it with my son (6) but it didn't work but his constipation is pretty much full on,prune juice didn't work here either.Try getting him to sit on the toliet 30 mins after meals and there's a 'rock and pop' exercises
here
Worth a go imo.

I bought some for DD1 when she complained about stomach ache but she wouldn't take it!!! Now she's 6 I sometimes give her the fruit flavoured settlers tums (not for constipation, more the opposite!).

Orange juice, pears and strawberries. You can always mush up the fruit with a fork and add it to a yoghurt if you need to be a little sneaky with it?
