19 month old

been ill recently with fluctuating 40 degree fever for a week

suddenly seems bit better and eats loads!! last couple of days..i mean loads

more than he ever has - obvioulsy catching up i thought

had bowel movements but a bit less than usual and tummy huge and firm but not too huge

when does one worry re missing bowel movements? so far only gone missing one day

then tonight vomited whilst having his eve bottle

...worried is this normal from over eating?

my little one has always been prone to vomiting - when does reflux stop?

but simply i did think he was eating so much it was untrue...

how know if he is eating too much to a harmful level?

also why is food so undigested? when do children start to really chew their food? my little one has all the teeth but obvioulsy swallows still. Should i encourage to chew so early an age?

argh............

Bumbly - I have 3 children 5 and under and have seen lots of temps, vomit and poo. It sounds to me at though your little one has and you have already posited, been ill - not eaten much - started to feel better - eaten too much and vommed. Personally if this really seems as likely to you as it does to me then I would not be worried. If you do have any more concerns especially if his temp goes up at all go to the GP. 40 Degree temperatures in children under 5 are very dangerous - as you probably realise you risk a febrile convulsion at that temperature and it can have long term consequences. Also run of the mill viruses don't usually take temps that high so its worth ruling out somthing more serious if you haven't already.

As for eating too much - we are always told to feed to appetite - sometimes kids have the eyes bigger than belly syndrome, we all eat too much from time to time don't worry about it.

As for chewing food - you can show your child your teeth biting on food if he really isn't getting the hang of it. Sorry for such a long post

Hope he's feeling better soon.

agree with kitkat - the vomiting again wouldn't bother me - the temperature would. may be worth speaking to NHS Direct about it - or seeing another GP!

Re:reflux - DS would puke at the slightest provocation - at nearly 5 he still very very occasionally possets (am talking once every six months or so...)

oh and these sort of bugs often completely screw up children's sleep patterns.

Hi Bumbly - 40 is definatley the danger point - I am very surprised that your gp is quibbling over 1 degree. If it happens again see a different gp, that ones advice is not great. Each gps surgey has a different focal point some are specialists in care of elderly some are more focussed on children. It might be worth asking your gp what their focus is...
