newborn cold?

DS has had a cold and a snotty nose.

I think my 5 week old DD now has it - she is okish during the day but last night when she was lying on her back for sleep was snorting like she couldn't breathe and it really upset her - she's done this the last couple of nights. She woke up shortly after she'd gone down and then in the night it woke her a couple of times and we couldn't get her off - oddly the dummy settled her which I did question since I would have thought she wouldn't be able to breathe well with that in if she had a cold. I'm exhausted today as I've been up with her since 1am. Any tips on how to deal with a newborn cold since none of the things capable of being used on a toddler can be used on a newborn can they.....

Poor baby, im not too sure what is allowed on a newborn baby. I know you can apply saline nose drops and use a nose pippete thing to suck out the mucos (sp)....
Plus you can place two books under each side of the head section of her cot, to elavate it slightly.

Hope shes gets well soon.

my son was like this as same age i was recommended to put small pillow or blanket under moses or cot mattress to help elevate head and open air ways

and to sit in steamed bathroom before putting to bed to clear airways and help settle better
