Very dry scalp - tips / shampoo recommendations please!

DS1 aged 2.5 has a very dry scalp and Dentinox shampoo makes no difference.

Any body got tips to get rid of the build up initially and keep it at bay in the future?

My 2.7YO DS has bad eczema on his head so have the same problem, we use Boots Expert conditioning shampoo it's quite expensive but works and leaves his hair lovely too.

Thank you Mamadiva - I shall ry that - do you leave it on for a longer time than normal or is it just like a normal shampoo?

We use Boots Aqueous cream on DD. Wet hair, rub it on. Bath and play, then rinse that out and use a mild shampoo to take the grease out.

just be aware of a chemical in alot/most of the high street brands (including Johnsons) it's called sulfar lauryl sulfate or SLS and it's and industrial chemical used to clean oil so is obviously very drying to us especially children

2 brands easily available on the high street are little me you can get at Boots and Halo n Horns which you can get in Tesco. Both do not contain SLS

T-Gel smells strong but I've had good results on myself and on DD2.

In the beginning I use it every hair wash (just a small amount) and then reduce to maybe once/twice a week.

Hi, I posted a similar post last week. Someone suggested Halos and Horns, we've used it for 3 washes now and it is already beginning to make a difference to ds scalp plus he smells scrummy

On the aqueous cream - I just use it as and when her scalp is looking dry and continue until cleared up.

FEP, could I just ask you,is it the berry burst one that you use or the melon 2 in 1?

About aqueous cream, this has liquid paraffin in which is a suspect carcinogen and Halos and Horns and Little Me, have various preservatives in which aren't too good for babies either. There is a good natural soap called Three Oils Soap which is competely natural, www.threeoils.co.uk.

We had the same problem with dd but after a check up with health visitor yesterday I asked her and was recommended rubbing olive oil all over the head, leave for half hour then shampoo off..... we did it this morning and there isnt 1 dry patch or cradle cap spot left, even the eczema on her forehead has cleared up!

Have you tried rubbing in olive oil/vegetable oil leaving it overnight and then combing the scales off? I did this when mine were little with scaly scalps on my mums advice and it really worked - never had a problem since.Looks greasy and red after combing for a while but they never complained.
