How much milk should a 16 month old be getting?

Hi All

My little one is 16 months and we have just dropped the morning bottle. So now he just has his bottle of cows milk at bedtime (11oz) and water in a sippy cup through out the day. I have been offering him milk in a sippy cup when he wakes up, but he has only been drinking about 1OZ of it.

Is this enough? He has a yoghurt everyday and cheese as a snack too.

Just wanted to know what other mums with babies the same age are doing with their little one's and get some advice from anyone who might know a lot more then me about it!

THanks all x

Hello my DS is a bit younger, 12 1/2 months but like you I am trying to reduce the number of bottle feeds and use the cup more but like you get less into him that way he is also keener on formula than cows milk (why beats me)

Annabel Karmel's book advises that toddlers need 400ml of full fat milk a day but that some of that can be taken in the form of yoghurts and cheese. Hope that helps

Absolutely fine, that sounds like more than enough calcium etc as you are offering cheese and yoghurt too. Don't worry.

My dd refused milk completely from 11 months, at the same time I converted her from a bottle to a sippy cup. I was very worried that she wouldn't be getting enough calcium but the HV said just offer yoghurt, cheese and milk in porridge/cereals etc and give water to drink. She is 2 yo now and still won't drink milk at home (but does at nursery...bizarre??) just drinks water or watery apple juice and still loves her cheese and yogurt...and ice cream too.

My daughter is 17 months and has 7oz formula in the morning in a beaker and 7oz at night beaker to, cheese and yoghurt in the day.

She is still on formula as she refused to drink cows milk and I was worried she wasn't going to get enough milk, I'm going to keep her on it until she's two and then try cow's milk again??
