A few weeks ago I rushed my daughter into see a gp as was playing up, who said she had an ear infection and prescribed amoxicillin antibiotics, since then she has got worse and started getting a rash down the back of her neck, mainly behind her ears and her glands were out behind her ears.
I stopped the antibiotics and rushed her back in incase she had german measels/rubella but was told it was just an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin and then prescribed some antihistamines med.... however the antibiotics has also flared her eczema so she is still in pain and the rash doesnt seem to be going away. It is now all over her body in a hive like rash (and getting worse!)
Does anyone know how long this is going to last as she is starting to get clingy, keeps crying in pain and also getting way over tired as not sleeping as much??????
Shes had it about 2weeks now but doctors wont do much else!

This to me would be unacceptable. Can you go back to the GP and push for a referral to a paediatrician as the rash is progressing and not improving and she clearly suffering? If all else fails I would go to A&E with her (last resort, not ideal but to me this is something that needs intervention to get her some effective relief).

If I where you I would question the heavy use of prescription drugs on your young child. Children rarely need anti biotics for an ear infection. Beleive me I have 10 years of experience with ear infections and they rarely, if ever work.

Hi thanks for replies, I have questioned them giving my dd (9months) the antibiotics as my sister and mil are both allergic to it but they said it should be fine and she did need something as she was in soooo much pain that calpol and others wouldnt help.
I have been back so many times complaining, called the emergency doc last night who wouldnt come and see her as he also said what i discribed sounded like a reaction 2 something, so nearly ended up down A&E but luckily today she seems alot calmer and happier and the rash seems to have faded off her cheeks so im hoping that maybe it is starting too clear up now. Just going to wait and see for another day how she is otherwise make another gp appointment.
Thanks again

I believe ammoxicillin (sp) is penicillin and it sounds like your little one is allergic to it.

Hope the rash goes soon and she feelings better. My daughter has just been prescribed anbitix for an ear infection and throat infection. We had been trying calpol and nurofen for the last 3 days.
