How to get a 5 year olds temp down, when he throws up medicine and the temp outside is 35+??

My 5 yr old is sick, he's cant even keep water down, he's threw up 2 mins after having his childrens paracetomal, he's just laying on the sofa in his boxers with the windows open, we dont have air con and we are in oz and the temp is 35 or more outside, dont know what to do with him. any ideas?Thanks

can I give him the medicine again or wait the 4 hours, i think he threw most of it up?

Cool wet face cloth will normally work, or even a cool wet cotton sheet over his body.

Try a luke warm bath or shower (not cold) that should help.

An ice pack for his head or the cold cloth as alipiggie suggests.

The guidelines I was given were nothing to eat and drink for 2 hours after vomiting, then sips of water every 15 minutes or so for an hour, then clear fluids (water, flat fizzy lemonade). Then solids - bread, rice, toast and apple sauce (the one that has pectin in it otherwise it will cause diarhea) then back onto regular foods. No milk or dairy products for about 2 days.

I am guessing he has thrown up most of the medicine but he may just throw it up if you give it to him again.

chickaboom you can get panadol suppositories here in Australia.

I have never used them but a good friend only uses them as her dc won't swallow medicine.

Also suggest lukewarm bath/shower and cool washer on his neck and forehead.

Also, my brilliant gp told me that water is not very good when a tummy is that sensitive. Gastrolyte is the best option. You can get them in an iceblock from the chemist.

Thanks everyone, he is fully recovered now, it was just a 24 hour thing, my husband now has it!

Ah. I'm in too late I see. I was going to suggest the paracetamol suppository too.

When DD had terrible gastro we managed to keep her out of hospital with crushed ice - she could just about tolerate that but nothing else.

Glad your DS is better. You could always suggest the suppositories for DH
