is it actually into the bowel? Family i have worked with, both children have a very deep dimple above theirs?

Looks very weird and they were checked as it was initailly thought to be a possible spina bifida defect.

not connected to his bowel at all, just sits there, lurking in his pull ups, waiting to freak me out at every toilet time!

Perhaps spina bifida occulta. My niece has it. 99% absolutely harmless.

You should check it with your GP just to make sure it doesn't lead anywhere

other than that, it is not uncommon but I've been advised that you should make sure you take prenatal vitamins well before you intend to conceive in the future

Think yourslef lucky a little boy i know was born with NO bumhole, the poor lad has to go through 4 operations and then be trained to go to the toilet himself.

I hope your Little boy is ok dsrplus8.

Agree with MP - check with the GP that it goes nowhere. Assuming it doesn't it is no big deal.

I know someone with a sinus like this. It is harmless and weirdly he has passed it onto his son (in spite of copious pre-natal vits) so we wonder if it has a genetic component.

It sounds like spina bifida occulta. For some genetic reason this condition is common in the UK population. My DD1 has it and her doctor was surprised as we live in France and it is quite rare here. Normally it doesn't cause any problems but you want to be sure that it has been properly checked out.

DD had to get hers operated on to close it because it was very deep and there was a risk of infection to her spinal cord fluid.

My doctor told me that it can be related to a folic acid deficiency. I was told to take shedloads before having any other children and DD2 does not have the actual hole but just a tiny dent that has got less visible as she has got older.

Has a doctor had a good look at your DS just in case?

BTW if as is highly unlikely, it was recommended to have your son's closed, the operation is routine and the recovery generally quick.

Sounds more like a deep sacral dimple. Most people have a little dimple.

Mention it to your GP or HV as the area may need ultrasounding to ensure there is no spina bifida occulta or accessory bowel creating a sinus beneath the skin.

@BlueWale

Have it is normal

I fully realise it's a zombie - but what does this sentence even mean?!

I am not zombie. All was saying it’s normal because i have two butt holes.

@BlueWale

I didn't mean you were a zombie. This thread is 12 years old, therefore a zombie thread.

(and no, it's not normal)
