Help - Anyone had temp as high as 40.3C in 19 month old??

hi. very concerned about DS1 who's 19 months and spiked a temp of 40.3C at 6pm tonight. it's the highest he's ever been.

he was startng to fall asleep at normal bathtime so just put him into bed.

he has had a mild temp of 38.2C for the last 2 days but it seems whatever he has has accelerated.

he has one cheek which is very red and hot, and that started about 5.30pm tonight too. i've been looking up 'slapped cheek syndrome' and wonder if it could be that, though his cheek is all red, and not patchy red.

just after reassurance in case anyone else has had such a high temp. i think i will take him to the GP/walk-in centre tomorrow just in case it's not 'just a virus'.

thanks.

DD1 has had a temperature of around 40. Have you got any infant nurofen? It's like magic and you can alternate it with calpol to get his temp down. If it doesn't come down I would phone NHS Direct.

In fact I would phone them anyway just to get some advice. DD1 was around 40 at it's peak but it came down quite quickly after medicine.

thanks. he had full dose of calpol 10ml at 6pm, and at 7pm his temp was 'down' to 40C when he then had nurofen. i am hoping it has come down a bit since then. i hope it won't be an A&E job in the night...

orange thanks for the good MN call! just got off the phone to NHS Direct and feel very reassured. they got me to go in and see him, pick him up, check for purple rash etc, check his bits and bobs, and while i was there i took his temp which had come down to 38.5 - PHEW! so, it looks like we'll be ok....for now!

thanks again.
