He's briefly stopping for about a minute on my breast but even that is not helping him

one cheek red, so maybe molar tooth coming

have given nurofen, about an hour ago and he just sicked up all over me, so not sure how muh got absorbed

he hadn't stopped anyway

he had cold but is not hot, not so bad as last week so not that

not coughing

nothing else

how can I help him? he really isn't a cryer at all.

Try a bath - always soothed my DD when she was fractious

Calpol and a cool bath. Then I would just sit him on the couch with a video, if something is hurting he wont want cuddled. Hope he is better soon.

got to the gp he could have something like an ear infection/tonsillitus that is being disguised by the red cheek & cold IYSWIM.

Being sick and crying a lot is somthing that happens to ds when he has an ear infection. If he has a bad night I'd deffo take him to the doctor tomorrow and see if his ears/throoat look like they need antobiotics. You could ask for a prescription to use over the Christmas brerak if you need them. That way you won't be worrying about getting hold of a doctor over the holidays if it is an infection.

dd was really really really ill when she had chicken pox she was getting steadily worse. We were admitted to hospital, she was pumped with anti-viral drugs, then they finally looked in her ears...........

Get his ears looked at asap. Do you have an out of hours centre?

Report
SixSpotBurNativity · 22/12/2008 17:26

Take him to your GP, or the out of hours emergency service if you can't get a GP appointment - I think 18 hours is a long time to be crying continually .

Report

He hasn't been crying for 18 hours, he is 18 months old. He has been crying for about 2 hours or maybe a bit more with ten minute break here and there for boob/starting to go to sleep/ type things.

Have tried bath, no use though he usually would

I wonder if it might be ears then, though he ahd ear infection once before and kept hitting his head. He isn't doing that now.

Ok he does have a temp, I was mistaken or else it has suddenly appeared...

is about 38, just under (just over 100)

Can anyone remind me what normal baby range is please? I am so crap at this.

Temp should be between 35 to 37, but up to 37.5 is OK. Above that, proper fever, indicating something going on. Agree could be ears, could be throat, could be something generalised that hasn't declared yet - like chicken pox.

Have you given paracetamol as well as the neurofen? Try it perhaps.

luvaduck · 22/12/2008 19:35

ring the out of hours docs - he is clearly in pain and needs to be seen - he could have anything - tummy ache/ear infection etc. we can't diagnose it over the net - he needs to be examined.

and yes that is a temp

has he eaten or drunk anything today? weeing?

good luck

Thankyou very much rempy.

I did wonder about teeth but he has had 3 through in last few weeks and not cried this much.

I will administer more nurofen immediately anyway as don't like his being in pain

How long ago did he have pain relief and what sort? Because if his temp is 38 whilst benefitting from pain relief he def def def has a temp and something going on.

He really doesn't right at all please take him to the gp.

Thankyou I will ring them.

He has had breastmilk and not too much else, but he doesn't generally eat much.

We are not too far from OOH centre so might be lucky and get an appt there.

thankyou.

Thankyou all,

he went to sleep after the nurofen and temp started to drop within 10 minutes. Dr rang back and said don't wake him, ring us in the night if you need to - but actually he only vaguely woke about 3 times for a brief feed and slept the rest. he woek at 6.15 very chirpy!
