Here's on for starters:

New Mummy: My 4 month old (back in the day) won't eat baby rice, what do I do ?

HV 'Just get some baked beans and whizz them up and feed them to her.'

New Mummy puts baby on scales for weight.

HV 'your baby is so FAT its legs won't hold its weight and it will not walk till it is 18 months old'

New mummy leaves in tears.

Sorry don't agree all advice is rubbish. You get good and bad in all professions. If you have a good HV - then its great, subsequently if not its not. But sadly no different to any other ofr example teacher, Gp.s etc etc!

new mummy: - how much should I be feeding DS I give him 2/3 ice cream squares (as was then) of carrot or what ever.

HV - just keep feeding him till he's had enough??!!

HV - oh I see your a forces wife - you'll prob get PND!

hmm what else??

6 moth old DS - you should restrict what he eats as he's over weight!!?? WTF he was on the 75th centile had a good diet snacks were fruit/rice cakes/bread sticks etc no choc/buscuits at the time. but no he was over weight! (but all in proportion!) - silly mo!

also told me at 16 weeks to wean him as he was a big baby - I didn't thou.

12 week old hadn't gained weight over 2 weeks. Nursery nurse had weighed, HV didn't even turn around, didn't look at baby, didn't ask how much she was feeding or if there were any problems.

HV 'give her formula top-up'

Me 'no I'm breastfeeding'

HV 'ok we'll just wean at 16 weeks'

'Your nipples are the wrong shape for breastfeeding' (NB: I fed DS till 16 months and dd till 3.5 years).

'He'll have brain damage if you don't give him a bottle.'

"go straight to the GP that rash on the baby is serious" (it wasn't)

"don't bother going to the GP the baby's cough is not anything serious" (it was bronchiliotis - ended up in hospital)

Mine told me to put bits of soap up DD's bum to help her constipation . In fact she demonstrated. I didn't take her up on that though.
