Rash on legs - any idea's?

My 19 month old ds has started coming up in spots on his legs. I noticed three on his knees yesterday, but then after his bath this evening we noticed that quite a few more little spots had started appearing. There's nothing anywhere else on his body.

Does anyone have any idea what these little spots might be? At first we thought the ones on his knees were little mosquito bites, but now we haven't got a clue.

We're supposed to be going away for the weekend tomorrow, and I don't want to go if it seems he's coming down with anything. He's had a runny nose/fever/mild diarhhoea on and off for the last few days. Is teething at the mo so thought these symptoms could've been caused by that but not sure...

Thanks!

Without seeing them it's very difficult to say. I would get on the phone to NHS Direct asap so that they can help. At the very least they will be able to put your mind at rest. But don't wait, always good to know ASAP what a rash might be. Hope he's OK for his weekend away!

Thanks Kitbit - am not in UK so can't ring NHS Direct .

If he is coming down with something it seems odd to me that the spots have started on his legs, rather than his torso or scalp as some websites have stated...

Am hoping it's nothing but I suppose we shall find out one way or another in the morning!

hmm, me neither, annoying isn't it!! Have you got a relative in the UK who can ring for you? Before you go to settle down for the night though, just do the glass press test to make sure the spots are nothing sinister, are there any other symptoms?

Yes, good idea . Will ring Dad and ask him to ring them.

If it was menigitis then would the spots be flat? You can feel these ones - the ones he's had since y'day really do look/feel like bites.

Am really worried - it's awful when they're ill isn't it.

I'll be honest, I don't know! Sorry - but good idea to ring your Dad. Don't let him tell them you're out of the country - have him on the mobile while he calls on the land line or something similar, then he can relay what they're saying.
Don't worry, I'm sure everything's fine, but good idea to check everything like this for little ones!

Thanks Otherside - just looked it up, and it says it's flat and you shouldn't be able to feel it. These are definately raised thank goodness.

Just read something that said chickenpox can look like insect bites in the first day or so... Uh-oh.
