Teeth - how long do adult teeth usually take to come through after the milk ones fall out???

Just wondering as DS1 has had gaps in his teeth where his baby teeth have fallen out for months now........

Can you feel the little sharp bit of the new tooth in the gap? I think they ususally start coming in fairly soon, since the adult tooth pushing is what starts the baby tooth going wobbly IIRC.

he says he can't feel anything - and it's been a long time - think he's only lost one tooth since H moved out- and that was 5 months ago - but has about 4 gaps there....

The first of his teeth that fell out came through fairly quickly IIRC but these seem to be taking forever

It's maybe worth mentioning to the dentist next time you're in - he might be able to feel if the teeth are there, or do an xray if he thinks there could be a problem. My DS has the opposite problem, that the teeth have no gap to go into!

How old is he and where are the gaps? It can take a surprisingly long time, os can be literally at the same time. I agree if you are concerned talk to the dentist. It is very rare for there to be any real problem (occassionally the teeth aren't there or are in such a position that other teeth/roots/bone prevent them from coming through, but I reinforce this is rare).

he's nearly 8 - he has a big gap at the top from the middle 2 top teeth and 1 small gap either side of his bottom front teeth (which are the adult ones)

My Ds's usually take months and months! He has learnt now though, not to loosen them and pull them earlier than they want to come out iyswim.
I'm sure it's normal to take a long time. Think how long milk teeth can take to come through! at least you don't have sleepless nights when they are 'teething' their adult teeth!

I joked yesterday that it was weird that I have a 10yo and a 20mo both teething!

I'm not really worried - but it's bugging DS1 now that he's still got these big gaps - bless him.

My DD1 (7 1/2) has adifferent problem. She has had her two bottom adult teeth there for months but baby teeth aren't even loose. Her top two teeth have been wobbling all over the summer (since June) but still not out. Part of me thinks this is a good thing, but poor child feels like a baby in her class as she is the last one to lose any teeth. DH has offered to pull out really wobbly top tooth but don't think this is good idea

The biggest mistake my Ds made was pulling the two teeth out that sat either side of the two top front teeth(Tooth Fairy has a lot to answer for). Waiting for so long for the not quite ready teeth to grow, his 'party trick' was to stick his two front teeth over his bottom lip bugs bunny style...I told him they'd stick out....they do! and he regrets not listening to my wise words.
