Does anyone have any experience or advice about vitamin d intake with breastfed babies?
My 15 month old still breastfeeds a lot and tends to prefer milk over food, she does eat her meals but sometimes only picks and isn't that interested & other times she loves her food.
I had to take her to a&e with a painful swollen ankle the other day, they thought it was broken but when x-rayed it wasn't. I went home and it remains slightly swollen but it doesn't seem to bother her. This was after a long day walking in the woods.
The hospital called me today to follow up and mentioned that they were taking another look at the x-rays thinking her leg might be slightly bowed. I have started to panic now and have been looking into vitamin d deficiency.
I am thinking that she gets a lot of calcium but not a lot of vitamin d. I worry that I have been allowing her to breastfeed too much and she doesn't have a varied enough diet.
Her older sister fed until 19 months but probably didn't have as much milk in the day due to being at nursery for 3 days while I worked. She was also a much better eater and I cooked lots of healthy food from scratch. This time round I'm at home and always available for a feed & I tend to make food that suits the 4 year old . I also don't take supplements myself and definitely have a worse diet this time round due to running here and there being stressed out and also being rubbish at looking after myself.
I'll have to take her to the doctors to ask about this and I'll get her some vitamin drops. I feel bad that I haven't been giving her all that she needs. If anyone has any experience with this at all I would appreciate it?
