DD8 - Day 3 of High temp

Hi - DD8 was complaining of nausea on Saturday, and by Sunday had a temp of 38+ Even with Calpol, severe sore throat& shivering. GP said tonsillitis on Monday morning & gave anti b's, so it's our second day in them. DD is having Calpol and Ibruphen aroubd the clock, but temp isn't falling below 38, or if it does shoots up again. She is fairly perky still, but when should expect her fever to ease off a bit? Thank you x

If it is bad tonsillitis the temperature will linger, I guess it shows the body is still fighting the infection. My eldest (7)has had a temp of 38/39 temp since Friday - GP gave antibiotics Monday, so day 2 of those & still 39+ and only comes down to 38, but similar to your DD ok in himself & eating a bit & drinking plenty.

My little one always puts in a solid 5 day temp with stuff like this! I know it's not great to hear but the doc is never worried as he says 5 days is fine. Honestly you could set your watch by it! Hope your little one is feeling better xxx

With tonsillitis the temp can linger sadly
Do take her back Monday if it's still there though as she may need a swab and a targeted anti biotic

Is she 8yrs or ds number 8? If 8yrs old current advice is stripping off, Cool showers and/or flannels for temp rather than constant doses of paracetamol. Abx can take 48-72hrs to kick in so hopefully you should see some improvement soon. Horrid when they are poorly, Hope she is better soon

I am glad for your recent replies as it meant I saw this thread. I am next to a snoring child with a high temp diagnosed with tonsillitis a few hours ago. I have been so worried about not being able to get temps down.

Glad your DC is on the mend.

We had a rough few days - ended up with 3 GP visits as temps just kept rising and I could see no improvement. It ended up being 4 days before they went down. I was so worried and am so glad things have improved. Thanks for asking.
