Itchy neck rash for DD 8 - any thoughts?

My dd is 8, no history of allergies at all. Last night and tonight she has an incredibly itchy pink rash on her neck under her chin before bed. Last night for dinner she had a cheese and tomato pizza and this evening we had bolognaise (home-made).
No pinkness or itching during the day, just some red marks from previous itching. No change of detergent. I'm at a loss to think what it could be. She's fine in every other way.. it's weird isn't it?

Has she been wearing new clothes? Some have a starch finish and they make my ds look like he has chemical burns.

Or could it be pollen - has she been playing outside?

DT2 has the same. We put it down to drying clothes outside or different/more fabric cond . DH is a bit liberal.

I get this when I eat something that contains moderate amounts of malt vinegar. If it's large amounts of vinegar in something the rash spreads to my arms. My reaction has been gradual over the years and I now suspect the same thing is happening with red wine. Something to do with the sulfates I believe.

It could be a mild reaction to something she has eaten. Did you put red wine in your bolognaise by any chance? Oh and another thought, I do remember someone telling me people with asthma are more likely to develop an intolerance to sulfates - not sure if that would be relevant to you DD or not.

May not be an allergy. Ringworm?

No new clothes, washing detergent the same, and no asthma. There was wine in the bolognaise last night, but not in the pizza the night before. I wonder if it's anything to do with our cat, she seems to be shedding a lot at the moment. she's never been allergic to the cat before though...

She had been playing outside both days though, but in the morning and the rash came on a few hours later.

Do you think she needs to go to the docs?

Was the pizza sauce homemade?

I only ask I the vast majority of all pre made sauces (for pasta or pizza) from jars do contain vinegar, sometimes 2 or 3 different types in the one sauce.

Tinned tomatoes have citric acid added rather than vinegar so if you made your own sauce for the pizza then it couldn't be a vinegar / red wine issue but if you used a pizza sauce from a jar then it might be something worth considering.

We had the pizza at a restaurant, so who knows! Seems like a very good hypothesis though, as we don't often cook with wine, but the bolognaise sauce is an exception. She hasn't had any flare ups since. Crikey if she's allergic to red wine what kind of quality of life will she have! Grin
