DS Huffiing and puffing, might be asthma diagnosis question

11yo DS, for yrs he has had a tendency to puff in cold weather or he's got a cold. It's a bit chronic this winter, it wouldn't surprise me if DS has mild asthma.

Is it worthwhile to take DS to GP? Is DS like to be diagnosed with anything, If DS is having a good day & can get a high reading on a peak flow meter & spirometer, or would GP then just tell us to keep an eye on situation (which we have done for long while now). Thing is, I'm kind of convinced that DS normally has a high lung capacity so the normalised charts might be misleading for him.

Any experience?

I would get him checked out, just in case.

Does he habitually breath through his mouth? Look into Butekyo breathing (Close your mouth by Patrick McKeown), it has been quite literally life changing for us.

Thanks. I forgot that surgery now operates a "same day only" appt system, so DH got DS the appt today. Prelim assessment is no infection so DS is booked in for a lung function test in 2 weeks. I will try to update after that.

That Buteyko breathing method is heavily endorsed on Mercola website which is putting me off enormously, but I am trying to find the more sensible Youtube videos to watch.

Update: DS finally got lung test today.
Absolutely fine. He also ran 1500 metres in 6'48" at school today, so not exactly slacking.
But he still does get huffy when he gets a heavy cold. Guess we'll keep an eye on it.

I would maybe keep a ventolin inhaler and a spacer at home just in case he has an attack one night.
My DS2 is very athletic, went to States in Australia and still has asthma attacks at night from time to time. He is on a preventer now.

It can be scary the first time you see them not able to breath.
