It's been a long night trying to get his temp down. Been ill with a virus since last Friday.

Although he's taller than me he's still my baby when he's ill.

He had some febrile convulsions as a toddler and that stays with me, that fear, even though he's 14.

He'll always be your baby!

Is it a flu type thing?

Hope he feels better soon Flowers

yes flu-like - but dragging on... we've all had it over the past month. DD was very ill last week and was in bed for three days straight. She went back to college yesterday, coughing but better. Even she was sympathetic to DS lol - she said she can't believe now she's better how ill she felt.

The temp is coming down - 38.5 now

He's still not better - he's been to the doc and has anti biotics but he's on the sofa, he's eating very little (a slice of toast this morning, one this afternoon) but loads of water.

So it's a week now since he came home from school saying he felt ill.

I thought today he'd feel better but he can't seem to stop getting these temp spikes and tonight he's had a warm bath, got out, threw up. Couldn't get off the bathroom floor for ten minutes.

Ride it out? What else can I do but it's a week since he ate a meal, and for a super fit, tall 14 year old he's like a sick puppy.

Doc said if he's not better in a few days bring him back. That was thursday.

My 3 year old has the same thing i think. Started last Friday night and only just starting to get better this afternoon. Waking every night with high temp, which one night made him puke. Barely eaten all week. Didn't even want smarties this morning. That shows how shit he's felt. Want my happy little chap back. Hope your ds feels better over the weekend

It's a worry when they are little and can't explain what's wrong exactly - I can't believe I'm so worried about my 5'11" 14 year old... Hope your DC is better soon too. So much of this virus about.

My 10 year old was off school today. She said she felt unwell but couldn't specify how. But she's been lethargic all day, fell asleep at half 3 and not eaten much. School said there is a virus doing the rounds, there are loads of kids off sick.

But if your boy doesn't improve soon, get bloods checked to see if there's anything underlying. Glandular fever, iron deficiency etc. Hope he's better soon.

Hi KBear. It sounds awful and you must be very anxious about him. FWIW, I've heard dozens of reports this winter about a really bad virus going round. One that takes people weeks as opposed to days to get over. Your ds might have it.

You know the usual advice: keep an eye out for the onset of new symptoms, check how alert he is, keep hydrated, ring the OOH if you feel really uneasy.

I hope he starts to feel better soon.

100 out of 900 kids off sick in ds's school yesterday. Did has just come down with high fever - burning up - bit of a cough and laryngitis. She's miserable. Really hope you boy starts turning the corner soon...

just to update - DS is up and about today, he slept from 4pm yesterday until the morning which did him the world of good. He's still coughing but heaps better. We went to my brother's for mother's day lunch for a couple of hours and he's back on the sofa now.

Think he'll be ok to eat dinner tonight, early night then hopefully school tomorrow. He's very pale.

Hope everyone else who has been ill is recovering.
