I was trying to be very brave, make light, the dentist was amazing. spent lots of time with a local anaethetic spray even before giving ( 8) injections.
DD was brave but nervous, said afterwards she felt no pain at all, even the injections.
Dentist was fantastic, a relly calm, gentle matter of fact attitude, although he used a screwdriver type thing to loosen the tooth, and big pliers to pull. There were huge bloody cavities left. Bleeding stopped quickly, and we left the surgery, waited for some paperwork, but I felt so faint. That cold clammy feeling came over me and my head was spinning. I tried to hide this from DD and said I had to go to the loo, but had to lie down in the toilet as I thought I was going to faint. I splashed my face with cold water, and came back with a brave face. We got back the car but DD new something was up.

I feel such a failure. I was supposed to support her but I crumbled.

BTW these were big second teeth and in perfect condition- she needed to have them out as she has an overcrowed mouth and about to be fitted with braces.

You are brave! My mum fainted into a tray of surgical instruments when I was eight and getting stitches in my head. All I heard was a crash!

Thanks catsahoy. DD is totally fine, gums healing beautifully, she is totally unphased by the whole thing.
I am generally not squeamish at all, but when it comes to my kids I feel so vulnerable.
I remember my 13 yo son undergoing surgery and being given a big shot of profanol, which I knew would stop his beathing. Again the anaethasist was professional, but even as the drug was being administered he pulled our a big breathing bag to use before he was hooked up to a machine in the theatre. Again I felt that losing control feeling, instinctive, basic, I felt so faint, a helpul nurse understood and brought me a glass of water.
