Loose stools as the norm - an allergy?

Hi! My 2 yo has always had loose squidgy stools. Not diarrhea but not firm. He eats a good diet and likes fruit but doesn't have overly much. It's never been a big issue as I suppose I just assumed it's normal. I now am wondering if he could have an allergy to something? About to start potty training which has made me think this could get very messy! Any ideas appreciated!

Apparently 'toddler diarrhoea' is quite common if you look it up. Watch out for any other symptoms though, I'm not sure about allergies but coeliac disease has loose stools as a symptom.

New website launched for coeliac awareness week this week //www.isitcoeliacdisease.org.uk

Can you try having four gluten free days to see what happens

My 19 month old is the same, I think, but I've always assumed it's the fact that it's happening in a nappy that makes them squishy. She's done a couple of poos in a potty/on toilet / in bath (!) and they all seem like normal sausages. And nursery haven't mentioned any concerns so I'm hoping all is well... Do you think it could be similar nappy-squish for your boy? Maybe give the potty a shot - you might be surprised by how well-formed they are!!

That could show an effect but may not, OP be aware that you should not cut out gluten before having a coeliac test.

Hi, I have a 2,5 yo who is the same. Great eater, does like fruit and eats plenty, but not excessive and not to the exclusion of veg etc.

He's probably had a handful of firm poos in his life. He was an unsettled baby (grunting and moving up his crib from 3 days old, head butting, breastfed for hours and hours and hours day and all night) and eventually I wonderd about his gut. He now only has goats milk and I've always wondered about dairy.

I've just registered and done the coeliac test and it suggests I get him tested. Sad

Ooh and his poo can stink too. Does that apply to your ds?

Thanks that's really helpful I will look up the coeliac link - he does love his bread! Clevername they'd definitely not be any better in a potty! It's more liquid than that!! DoIt that sounds so similar - good luck with the tests. Yes his poo stinks but I kind of assumed they always doo!! It's so hard not having much to compare with. Fingers crossed he's not coeliac but going to look it up now - thanks everyone :)
